Children set new world record meditation session in aid of Red Nose Day

A new ‘unofficial’ world record was set for the largest group of children meditating in the UK on Friday 18th March

Meditation and mindfulness app Samten hosted the session as part of its efforts for Comic Relief 2022, broadcasted live on Youtube.

Filmed at Deri Primary School in Bargoed, South Wales, Samten co-founder, Jamie Watkins led a ‘fingers and toes’ meditation session alongside life and health coach Andrew McLaughlan, allowing the children first-hand experience of the key meditation techniques.

Those who took part were encouraged to share photos and videos across social media using the dedicated Comic Relief hashtags.

Jamie Watkins, co-founder of Samten, commented: “It was wonderful to think of all those children meditating together with Samten Junior on Red Nose Day. To see them finding a moment of peace whilst raising money for the fantastic work that Comic Relief do every year was a very special experience for us all.

“On behalf of the Samten team, I want to extend a huge thank you to all of the schools who made this happen. It was pretty incredible to think of all that collective energy and the impact that it will have had on the children. As the Dalai Lama said, ‘If every eight-year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation’. We are so grateful to be part of a movement that has the power to make that happen.”

CEO of Samten, Simon Delve, added: “Children are our future and we want to help them build the strongest version of themselves that we can. We look forward to growing our connections within the education sector over the coming year and working with schools as often as we can.”

The hope is to make children feel great on the inside whilst educating them about the importance and benefits of mental health and wellbeing.
