Education Executive is proud to have published a new white paper exploring the use of Management Information System data in schools, developed in partnership with SIMS
The report, now available as a free download, offers vital insights into how school business leaders are using data and the barriers they face in making the most of it.
Based on a nationwide survey conducted by Education Executive, the white paper captures the voices of those working closest with school data systems. School business managers and their teams played a key role in shaping the findings, highlighting the day-to-day frustrations, limitations and areas for improvement when it comes to MIS functionality and integration.
“No one has a clearer understanding of the challenges schools face when it comes to connecting the dots of their data than those who are working with it every day,” said Holly Tinsley, editorial lead at Education Executive. “That’s why their voices are at the heart of this report. We haven’t just collected feedback – we’ve built a narrative that reflects real, lived experiences across the sector. We want this report to spark conversations in staff rooms, leadership meetings and across trust networks. We hope it empowers school business leaders to push for better tools, stronger integration and smarter strategies.”
The report serves as both a practical tool and a benchmark, allowing school leaders to compare their current systems with those used by peers nationwide. It’s intended to prompt reflection, ignite meaningful conversations within leadership teams, and help schools identify what they really need from their data infrastructure to move forward with confidence.
Education Executive extends a huge thank you to all participants who contributed to the research. The full report is now available to download here.
