As reported by Gov.uk, thousands of students will receive their exam certificates digitally for the first time this summer, as the government launches a new, streamlined education record system designed to modernise and simplify access to academic records
The initiative will debut in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, where over 95,000 young people will get their GCSE results via a new Education Record app. The app brings together students’ academic achievements in one secure, easily accessible location – eliminating the need for paper files when applying for college, apprenticeships, or jobs.
This marks the first step in a wider national rollout, with the digital shift expected to save schools and colleges up to £30 million annually. According to government estimates, that’s enough to fund the salaries of over 600 new further education teachers, savings that can be reinvested into improving skills and supporting the UK’s economic growth.
The new app is part of the government’s broader plan to digitally transform public services, cutting red tape and improving efficiency across the education sector.
