As reported by the BBC, primary schools across England will receive this year’s Sats results later than expected after exam board Pearson postponed their release by more than a week because of technical issues
The results, originally due to be published on 7 July, will now be made available on 16 July. Pearson apologised for the delay, saying it was working to resolve the problems but did not provide further details about the cause.
The postponement has prompted criticism from school leaders, who warned it could create additional pressure at the end of the academic year.
Pepe Di’Iasio, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, described the situation as a “complete shambles”, warning that many school staff would now have to complete end-of-year assessments during the summer holiday period.
The National Association of Head Teachers also called for reassurance that the delayed results would be accurate, saying schools needed confidence that the data they received could be relied upon.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said the disruption would be disappointing for schools, pupils and parents, adding that the government was working with Pearson to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Pearson said the technical problems affecting Sats would not impact the release of GCSE, A-level or other qualification results later this year.
