As reported by Computing.co.uk, the UK government has announced changes to the national computing curriculum in an effort to tackle the declining number of young people choosing to study computing and information technology
Following recommendations from an independent Curriculum and Assessment Review, the reforms will replace the current GCSE in Computer Science with a broader qualification that better reflects the full scope of today’s computing curriculum.
According to officials, the revised programme will retain the core principles of computer science, including programming, algorithms and problem-solving, while expanding its focus to include data literacy, artificial intelligence (AI) and the ethical use of technology.
The government said the changes aim to ensure that computing education remains relevant in a rapidly evolving digital world and helps equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for the future workforce.
