Welsh funding to help two schools rebuild

Two Welsh schools are hoping to be rebuilt, as additional funding is poured into education in the Barry area

As reported by Wales Online, two schools in Barry are set to be completely rebuilt, after plans to refurbish them were scrapped.

Pencoedtre High School and St Nicholas Church in Wales School are awaiting final confirmation from councillors regarding the plan.

Pencoedtre is an English medium school that opened only this academic year as part of Barry’s school reorganisation scheme.

Additionally, the 21st Century Schools programme will hopefully be amended to include a brand new building for Pencoedtre.

Increased funding for band B of this scheme will also mean that children with additional learning needs will have more places available at Ysgol y Deri in Penarth.

Cabinet member, councillor Bob Penrose, said: “This increased funding should allow us to further expand what was already a far-reaching programme of investment aimed at transforming nursery, primary, secondary and faith education across the Vale.”
