Christ College Brecon is gearing up to hold its popular annual summer camps from its base in Powys and the stunning Gower coastline
Open to all children between 10 and 16 years old, the camps will host a range of activities, including high rope courses, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, gorge scrambling, rock climbing, coasteering and multi-sports across the two locations.
The activities make the most of the surrounding environment by exploring the mountains, rivers and woodland and are designed for fun, while also challenging children to develop teamwork skills and bond with their peers.
Children will stay in Christ College Brecon’s boarding houses, which each have their own common areas for relaxation and shared rooms and small dormitories. Camp leads, as well as male and female group leads, will be allocated to each house to look after the students.
The days are planned to ensure children have a rounded experience, adventuring during the day and an evening programme of fun at the boarding house. The Gower Camp also includes one night of camping on the coast.
Aidan, age 14, took part in the Beacon Adventure Camp last summer. He said: “The camp was an adventure of a lifetime; it was exhilarating and action packed. I enjoyed making friends and taking part in all of the activities, from gorge walking to rock climbing, and I’ll never forget jumping off a waterfall. I can’t wait to return for this summer’s adventure – my bag is already packed!”
Lewis, age 13 from Swansea, said: “Everyone was very friendly and I made new friends that I still keep in touch with. Summer camp gets a big thumbs up from me and I can’t wait to join in at the Christ College Gower Camp this summer.”
Jane, whose children attended the camp last year, said: “The camp was a great way to keep the children out in the fresh air away from screens, and kept them occupied with lots of exciting activities. My two can’t wait to go again this year.”
The summer camps are split into the Beacon Adventure and the Gower Adventure, each running for a week, with varying sessions for different age groups. The camps run between 10 July and 12 August. Prices start from £600 per person up to £1,300 per person.
