NEWS: Teachers ‘At Risk’ Under Ofsted Inspections, NEU Warns

As reported by MSN The National Education Union (NEU) has accused Ofsted of placing teachers in “imminent serious danger”

The union condemned its proposed report card grading system as failing to address a deepening “crisis in trust and reliability” within the education sector.

At the NEU’s annual conference in Harrogate on Wednesday, delegates passed a motion calling for renewed efforts to “expose the harm, damage and cover-up” caused by the school inspection body. The union is urging the Government to replace Ofsted with a fair and supportive school improvement system – one free from what it described as “ranking and shaming.”

The criticism comes amid Ofsted’s ongoing consultation on a new report card system, which proposes grading schools across eight to ten categories – such as attendance, inclusion and behaviour – using a five-point, colour-coded scale. Categories would range from “causing concern” in red to “exemplary” in dark green.

But NEU delegates dismissed the new framework as superficial and out of touch. Executive member Jennifer Cooper described it as a “Nando-style spice chart,” saying it reduced teachers and children to “data, numbers and colours on an AI chart.”
