Networking is essential for SBLs, offering valuable opportunities to connect, share experiences and find support in navigating the unique challenges of school management
Networking is a vital aspect of the SBL community; who better understands the challenges and pressures of school management than fellow school business professionals? However, the demands of heavy workloads and limited time can often push networking to the back burner. If you’re finding it difficult to make time for professional engagement, we’ve compiled some easy steps that only require a few minutes of your day. After all, every little step helps!
Have a Business Card
While business cards may seem a bit outdated in today’s digital age, they can be incredibly useful. It can be frustrating to meet someone you’d like to connect with, only to fumble with your phone while logging into LinkedIn or trying to recall your number. A business card allows you to effortlessly share your contact information, giving others a clear and quick glimpse of who you are and your area of expertise!
Have a Goal in Mind
Consider what you hope to achieve through your networking efforts. Are you seeking personal support to navigate tough times? Professional coaching and skill-sharing? Or perhaps you want to share your expertise and help others grow? Clearly defining your networking goals will enable you to engage more purposefully and effectively.
Ask For Connections
Networking comes naturally to some, while others may find it challenging. If you’re in the latter group, don’t hesitate to reach out to those who excel at networking and ask for their assistance in making connections. A simple email can go a long way.
For example, you could say something like: ‘I really enjoyed your presentation at EdExec LIVE about your experience transitioning from a MAT to an LA. Your insights were incredibly valuable! If you have a moment, could you connect me with some of the individuals you mentioned during your talk? I’d love to learn more about their perspectives and experiences’.
Join In at EdExec LIVE
Supporting networking among SBLs has always been a fundamental goal of our EdExec events. At our upcoming Harrogate event on 6th November, Laura Williams will host a “Quick Fix Networking” session designed for SBLs who are eager to step out of their comfort zones and become 10% braver. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to expand their connections with a bit of guidance!
