EdExec LIVE North – Meet the Speakers: Getting to Know Rebecca Cunliffe

With EdExec LIVE in Harrogate fast approaching, in this series, Education Executive is shining a spotlight on our expert speakers, exploring the key topics they’ve previously addressed and highlighting the subjects they’ll be discussing at the event on 6th November

Many readers of Education Executive are likely familiar with Rebecca Cunliffe’s valuable insights and extensive knowledge on various topics impacting SBLs and their roles.

As she prepares to take the stage at EdExec LIVE in Harrogate to discuss ‘Getting the Best Out of Your Governing Board’, we thought this was a perfect opportunity to revisit her article from the May 2024 issue of Education Executive.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

In the article, Rebecca reflects on the best ways to get to know your governors and work with them more effectively, “Governors are the people who hold leaders accountable for the strategic vision of the school.  It is important that we present information that allows them to analyse our performance and ensure we are striving for best value in all our decisions.”

Diving Deeper

During her seminar at EdExec LIVE, Rebecca will explore the topic further, offering SBLs practical strategies for building relationships with governors, enhancing communication beyond formal meetings, and improving governors’ understanding of the SBL’s role.

Rebecca encourages SBLs to dedicate time to improving their communication skills with governors to strengthen these relationships, stating, “If you build good working relationships, communication channels and trust it can only work in your favour. Their leadership will depend on your guidance and information sharing, so be proactive and soon you’ll be striding into meetings brimming with enthusiasm!”
