Lawn and Order: Season Two

Last month, Laura Williams dove into a garden-related conundrum in her piece, “Lawn and Order: SBL Edition.” In this installment, she shares a miraculous discovery that made her ponder not just the mysteries of gardening, but how to cultivate your career and weed out opportunity

Fast forward to this year, and after a brutal winter, our lawn was looking more “meh” than magnificent. We were both feeling a bit defeated, unsure of how to bring it back to life.

Promised Transformation

Just when we were feeling totally stumped and considering calling in a professional, John stumbled upon an ‘all-in-one lawn care revival package’ on social media. It promised to transform our lawn into a bowling green within four weeks, complete with a collection of powders, liquids and other magical boosters.

The kit arrived in a big cardboard box and with a quick scan of a QR code, we had all the instructions we needed. And guess what? It worked like a charm!

Why did this make me think about SBLs?

Well, just like we found the perfect kit to revive our lawn, sometimes the right solution for us is out there waiting—we just have to find it. I’ll be honest, I was super sceptical about those social media product ads at first. I mean, anything that promises a miracle must be too good to be true, right? Before jumping in, I dug into the reviews to make sure it was legit. And that bit of research, combined with the right tools and a clear plan, led to amazing results.

Too Good to be True?

In our SBL roles, the parallels are clear. Whether you’re tackling a complex project or looking for a fresh perspective, the right solution is often within reach—you just need to find it. It’s about having the right support and strategy to help you navigate challenges effectively.

This is something I see time and time again in my coaching work.

Just as the lawn kit gave us a clear plan and the tools to get the job done, coaching offers the structure, guidance and encouragement needed to help you reach your goals. By trusting the process, staying committed, and allowing things to unfold, you can achieve truly remarkable results.

As we approach that time of year when many of you are reflecting on goals, career trajectory and CPD, it’s worth considering coaching as part of your plan. If you haven’t already, take this opportunity to explore how coaching can provide the clarity and support you need.
