Making SBL bloopers – part two

In part two of her blog, Laura Williams, SBL coach and trainer, L J Business Consultancy, discusses why you should be 10% braver as no-one is actually focusing on your bloopers

In my last blog I spoke about Adele’s perfect imperfections and how, sometimes, we have a tendency to compare our ‘blooper reel’ with other people’s ‘highlight reel’… and I’ve been thinking about that a lot since.

If you’ve read my blogs or emails before, you will know how much I love ‘10% braver’. Being just 10% braver can help you overcome difficult circumstances, negative perceptions and self-doubt to achieve some amazing things.

I heard about the concept at a talk hosted by SBL Connect and #WomenEd and it inspired me to actually start my weekly emails (rather than just talking about how I would one day), record my podcast, and so many other things I’ve done… and am planning to do (yep, I’m still scheming!)

What does this have to do with you and your blooper reel?

Whilst you might be worried that people are focusing on your bloopers, the opposite is more likely to be true. They’re looking at your highlight reel and thinking about how awesome you are! You need to remember this when you doubt yourself or feel stuck somehow.

Don’t think about other people.

And don’t think about what they might be thinking about you!

Instead, ask yourself – what is the right thing to do for me?

Then commit to being 10% braver – and do it.

It doesn’t even have to be a huge thing; it could be a small step to help you to move forward. It could be:

  • Saying no to something.
  • Saying yes to something.
  • Sharing your thoughts on something.
  • Asking a question.
  • Asking for something you need.
  • Telling someone how you’re feeling.
  • Giving an opinion.
  • Starting something.
  • Stopping something.

So, how are you going to be 10% braver?
