Laura Williams, SBL coach and trainer, discusses her podcast and her live recording at the event this year
When I started the School Business Leadership podcast last year, I was so unsure of myself. I was totally convinced that no one would listen to it at all – that it would just be me talking to myself and tumbleweeds…but, thanks to my phenomenal guests, and support from you, it has thrived and evolved into something truly special. It’s almost at 15,000 downloads now!
Because you love it so much, and because there’s still so much to be said about SBLs and their awesomeness, I’ve been busy recording a second season,
As part of this, I’m going to be recording two very special episodes at the EdExec Live events later this year!
This will be my fifth year at EdExec Live – and, when I think about my journey with them, I literally have to pinch myself. The first time I spoke at the event, it was my first speaking event – ever. Sure, I’d spoken in front of people, but at a proper conference in front of my peers, well, my imposter syndrome went into overdrive!
I remember being so nervous that when I walked in and saw the crowd, I walked to the back of the room to get a drink of water and seriously contemplated running away. But I didn’t! I took a deep breath, went back to the front, and started talking and the rest…well, it’s a blur. I don’t remember a thing apart from at the end when people waited behind to speak to me and they were so lovely.
I certainly didn’t think that, five years on from that moment, I would be recording a podcast live at their conferences! So here I am again – terrified and excited in equal parts.
So how will it work?
The format of the podcast will be a Live Q&A panel with myself and four amazing SBLs at each event:
- Sally Boaden, Jonny Coates, Rebecca Cunliffe and Husham Khan (Manchester)
- Helen Burge, Cheryl Campbell, Micon Metcalfe and Kevin Parker (London)
We’ll be answering all your burning SBL questions!
What type of questions will you be asking?
You can ask us anything about school business leadership, our experiences as SBLs and our thoughts on, well, pretty much anything! Your questions can be deep, they can be serious, they can be random and fun and, if you’d prefer, they can be anonymous.
For example… you might:
– have a question about dealing with a difficult member of staff;
– want some advice about how to get a seat on your SLT;
– be looking for some career planning or CPD support;
– need some guidance on budget setting or estates planning;
– be curious about our thoughts on the future of the SBL role;
– want to know our funniest (or scariest!) moment as SBLs.
…whatever it is, we’ve got your question covered!
How do you submit a question?
Email me at [email protected], or DM me on social media – @lauraljbusiness
Feel free to send multiple questions – the more the merrier – and if you want to direct a question at a specific panel member, you can do that too.
Can you catch up with me at EdExec Live outside of the podcast event?
Yes. I’m not doing a full day of workshops this year so it means I’m free to roam, attend sessions and have proper catch-ups and chats! So please, do come over and say hi – I’d love to meet you and grab a brew and a biscuit (and, of course, some wine after the podcast!)
You haven’t got a ticket yet (!!??) How can you get one?
If you’d like to come and join us at either of the EdExec Live events – both of which boast an awesome line-up, and plenty of familiar faces then check out this link for more info.
See you there!
