CPD (Continuing Professional Development) is key for all educators to undertake. After all, we stress the importance of education to our pupils, why wouldn’t we reinforce this to our educators too? TeacherActive are on a mission to help SBLs take control of their CPD

It is well known that CPD can improve teaching overall, as teachers and education staff discover new teaching methods, ways to manage behaviour and development techniques in their careers.

A recent Department for Education study found that workload pressures are the main barriers to teachers seeking development. With workload so high and teacher retention so low, how can we ensure CPD is being achieved? Differentiating CPD is key to this, and here are three ways to engage your educators in CPD that will help improve their development and learning outcomes.

Community groups

Hosting a forum or platform for open discussion means educators can share ideas and knowledge. During your inset days, host a discussion event on a certain topic, such as PPA or challenging behaviour, using questions to steer their conversations.

Community champions

Those who you know have a wealth of experience or a passion for school culture can become community champions – facilitating smaller CPD groups and finding new learning topics. By empowering staff to support each other and recognising their efforts, you foster a positive learning environment for your staff to thrive in.
