BBC Newsround asks: are the roads around your school safe?
According to a BBC Newsround report, over 40 schools in England have closed roads around their premises to ensure the area is safer for pupils, as well as to cut pollution, thanks to the School Streets Scheme.
Over 50% of primary school pupils walk to school, and one in four cars at this peak time are dropping children off.
The School Streets scheme closes roads before and after school; one of the worst places for bad driving can often be right in front of the school gates.
Newsround is encouraging young people to help their schools make the surrounding area safer. Visit the website to watch the various videos intended to make school streets safer, and inspire schools to implement their own road safety rules.
