As our events team gear up for a packed year of EdExec LIVE events – with eight locations across the UK, we’ve put together a guide to help you make the most of your day
Whether it’s your first event or you’re coming back for more professional development, this article has some top tips from the team behind the scenes. Our goal is to ensure you walk away with valuable insights, practical strategies and new connections to enhance your role in school business management.
Keep on Moving!
“During breaks, it’s easy to find a table and stay put, especially if you’re catching up with friends you haven’t seen in a while. However, by switching things up, moving around, and joining different groups, you can significantly broaden your network and engage in meaningful conversations. It’s all about striking the right balance between unwinding and taking full advantage of the opportunity to connect with so many fellow SBMs in one place!”
Prepare Some Questions
“We’ve all experienced that moment when you’re asked if you have any questions, and despite having plenty in mind before the event, they suddenly slip away! To avoid this, write down a few key questions ahead of time and don’t hesitate to raise your hand during the Q&A sessions. Often, it just takes one person to get the conversation started, and before you know it, the discussion will be flowing!”
Be a Little Braver
“Stepping away from your daily routine provides the perfect opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and build your self-confidence. Challenge yourself with a small but meaningful goal – whether it’s raising your hand to ask a question during a seminar, introducing yourself to a new group of school business leaders, or starting a conversation with someone. It doesn’t have to be a huge leap – just something that nudges you outside of your usual boundaries. Over time, these small acts of bravery can build your confidence and make future events even more rewarding.”
Enjoy the Journey
“Industry events are a fantastic opportunity to invest in yourself, but they can make for a long day, especially with travel included. By the time the day ends, you’ll be brimming with new ideas, advice, and information, and it might be tempting to dive straight into action! However, don’t forget that this day is all about investing in you – so take some time to unwind afterward. Pack a good book for the train ride home or queue up a favourite podcast for the drive. Treat yourself to a nice coffee or a small indulgence. After spending eight hours focusing on your growth and your school’s success, you’ve earned a little reward!”
